The stay was good; the check-in was okay. However, there were no directions on where amenities were located. They did not explain the pending charges applied to my card on file. It looked as if I was charged twice. The signage in the hotel is a little confusing regarding elevators. I noticed a sign at the front desk explaining that elevator 3 was out of order and only elevators 1 & 2 were available for use. Signage in the hotel advised that elevator 1 went left and elevator 2 was down past the pool. I followed the signs for elevator 2, and when I got to what I thought was elevator 2, it was out of order. I had to walk all the way back to the lobby and followed signage for elevator 1, where there are 2 elevators marked #1 & #2. I was a little disappointed there was no welcome package in the rooms to see what Thunder Bay has to offer and what or where amenities are located.

The only thing lacking was the housekeeping service. We stayed 6 days. Our room was not cleaned until the 3rd day and only after my husband complained.

We are rating this hotel for what it is and what we paid. This is an older property. Sits in an older parking lot near to the airport. But the rooms have been renovated and we’re very nice and totally clean and modern. There is an indoor pool and an attached restaurant. We did not use the pool. It was pretty busy and we didn’t want to contend with the kids. But this is a great option for a family. We were two couples traveling by motorcycle. The attached restaurant and bar was a good option for food. No need to leave the hotel to eat. We were very happy with the rooms. Super clean. Everything worked. The hotel itself is showing its age. But they have done a great job to make it comfortable. The property is old

Poor selection at breakfast, a mediocre buffet or nothing. There were 3 of us in the room and everyday we asked for 3 sets of towels . Sometimes we got 2 facecloths, sometimes none. I called housekeeping and requested facecloths and left a message but did not receive any. The layout is poor with the elevator at 1 extreme end, a long way from some of the rooms

Very professional staff. Room was clean. For its age, the property is well-kept and everything is in very good to excellent condition. I frequent staying at the Valhalla when I visit Thunder Bay.

Overall it was a lovely stay The staff at the front desk were very helpful The shuttle was very much appreciated and frequent and with very friendly drivers There was a heavy scent of cannabis on both Sunday and Monday evenings - it seemed to come from the air conditioning so pulling in from outdoors perhaps - Rm. 302 There were children roaming the halls on Sunday evening which made it uncomfortable and at times created noise after 10 pm There were insufficient hangars -4 are not enough for a double queen room There was a large area at the end of a room that typically accommodates a table and additional chairs - or an occasional al chair - there wasn’t enough seating in the room There was a VERY long wait for food on Wednesday evening - like more than 1.5 hrs The food was delicious when received Typically for the rate charged for the premium stay, complimentary bottled water would have been appropriate on arrival Thank you for requesting feedback It was a great stay in Thunder Bay

I did not like the steps to get to the bathroom in the night! I should have been warned about that.

2 Floor hallway from elevator had an AWFUL Odour on arrival on Sat. July 4, 2026. This was a HUGE turnoff which caused a gag reflex. This was my 3rd visit since 2009 which I had not experienced before. There was no odour in the room but found three black bugs in the room with the first on the Saturday. Overall very off putting including the behaviour of some guests. The odour dissipated after the air blowers and the garbage was removed. Staff were friendly.

This place is amazing! Pool open late, lots of parking, great restaurant, friendly staff. The only issue is their rear elevator was out of service and so it's a 20 min walk from the main elevator to our room (think 75 rooms in a U shape building with the elevator at the tip of one side of the U). Being mobility limited, this was very difficult, but we still enjoyed our stay.

The room was clean, but when we arrived the hallway smelled so bad it was making me nauseous. The general cleanliness of the hotel was not very good. We appreciated the special rate given to our convention members. The staff were friendly and helpful. I also found a bug crawling in our bathroom.

I had repeated issues with contacting the hotel prior to my stay. My reservation was not under the block of rooms, and when I called to fix it, the person at the front desk said the system was down and she would call me when it came back up-she never called back. I had to call and request an emailed confirmation of my booking no less than 3 times. From arrival to check out our stay was terrific!

Overall, I was happy with my recent stay. I found the room to lack adequate lighting. There should be a couple of lamps in the room, especially the side with the desk and couch. Additionally, I found cleaning of the room to be quite slow and my room was not cleaned daily until late afternoon despite leaving it early morning.

Excellent restaurant on premises. Great food and service for breakfast and dinner. Front desk was not overly friendly but they were polite.

Good: Our room was comfortable, clean, and up to date. The hotel restaurant, Skál, offers a pleasant environment, serves delicious food, and is staffed by friendly waiting personnel. Bad: At both check-in and check-out, the front desk personnel seemed distracted – and during check-in, they seemed rather officious and not especially welcoming. I've stayed at the Valhalla several times over the years, but today it lacks the friendliness and refinement of former years.

Loved the friendly staff ( front desk, room cleaning, servers in the restaurant) , the delicious food , the great access location all for a decent price. Will definitely return.

Hotel was excellent. Breakfast was good at restaurant.Clean,comfortable rooms. Staff was very friendly. Easy parking. Easy access back to Hwy. Will definitely stay again.

Excellent team. Enjoyed the summer sale! Kids loved the pool. Food was good. Definitely will be back, if the price right again.

That was the most PAINFUL experience ever calling the hotel to book a room, it took over 20 minutes , the hotel itself was great minus the back elevators not working

Nice room, comfortable bed. Plenty of room next to the two queen beds. Fancy entrance. My only complaint is that there's smoking right outside the entrance. Impossible to get in without being smoked out. They could have, and should have, moved it somewhere farther away from the entrance. The pool was sizeable, but I should gave gotten there before 10am to do laps. The sauna was perfect.

Came here after our wedding and stayed in the deluxe king suite with jacuzzi. The front desk on both checkin and checkout were rude, unhelpful and difficult to communicate with. In all cases they had expected myself to carry the conversation which is silly when we’re staying in a premium suite and I don’t know their workflow, just a bizarre experience to meet with front desk staff who don’t talk or say what the next step is.. for that reason alone, I wouldn’t stay there again nor recommend it. The room itself was very nice and we enjoyed it.

Good: The room was clean but the hallways are not so clean Bad: Because I order through Booking .com they always put me in a room that is in the farthest wing of the hotel. I am a senior lady and really don't appreciate that.
